Claudine Andre and the bonobos They share 98,7% of our genes and are more closely related to us than to gorillas. Nevertheless bonobos are very different: they are the most peaceful of the primates reducing conflicts and tensions in the group by making love and all sorts of sexual and tender contacts. Although females are physically smaller and less strong they form close female alliances, dominate males and lead the group. They are the peace-keeping force. We are destroying their habitat becose of our uncontrolled expansion and by killing and selling them as bushmeet. Claudine Andre has become the guardians angel of this highly endangered species whith lives only in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. She foundet a sanctuary (Lola ya Bonobo) for rescued bonobo orphans and releases them back into the wild when they are grown up (Ekolo ya Bonobo). This book gives an overview ag her work and helps to support it.
